Cataño

 

Elena Sky Cataño Baeza, the daughter of Adrianna Cataño and Abel Baeza, died at birth December 11, 2007 at Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine.

She is survived by her parents, Adrianna Cataño and Abel Baeza, both of Marfa; her maternal grandmother, Reba Jurado-Cataño of Marfa; paternal grandparents, Saul & Sandra Baeza of Marfa; her great-grandparents, Jose & Manuela Baeza of Balmorhea; Elia Tarango of Balmorhea; Jose & Catarina Orosco of Marfa; Arlene Whitney of California; Jose Jurado of El Paso; her great-great grandfather, Tom L. Blanco of Marfa; her aunt, Isabel Cataño of Marfa; Uncles Paul Baeza, Saul Baeza Jr.; Aunt Sarah Baeza of Marfa, and cousin Xavier Baeza of Marfa.

Pall bearers were Paul Baeza and Tony Gonzalez.

Elena Sky was preceded in death by her grandfather, Adan Cataño; her great-grandmother, Ausencia Muñoz; her great-grandfather, Epifanio Cataño; and her great-great grandmother, Isabel Blanco.

Funeral services were held the morning of Wednesday, December 19 at Merced  Cemetery in Marfa with Minister Roy Cragg officiating.

Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton was in charge of funeral arrangements.

 

 

Davenport

 

Alpine native Joe Lee Devenport, 58, died Monday, December 17, 2007 following a heart attack at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

He was born February 18, 1949 in Alpine to Elmer and Frances Devenport.

Joe owned and operated Alpine Woodwork for more than 30 years. He moved to Odessa in 1970.

He is survived by is wife, Deborah, a son, Britt and daughter-in-law, Becky, of Artesia, NM, a daughter, Katie Amonett and son-in-law Kevan, granddaughter Kaylee, two brothers, James and John Devenport; and his sister, Anne Powell.

To his many friends, the family thanks you for your sympathy and request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Joe's name to the Children's Miracle Network. 

Cremation Services are entrusted to Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory of Odessa.

 

 

Dutchover

 

Sam "Sammy" Dutchover, 80, of Fort Davis passed away December 1, 2007 at his residence.  He was born in Fort Davis.
A rosary was said December 4, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Funeral Services were held Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Church with burial following at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Fort Davis
He is survived by his wife Anita Dutchover of Fort Davis, son, Christian Dutchover and wife Traci of Nashville, TN, daughters, Leoley Courett of Hilliard, OH, Virginia Ann Reynolds and husband Thomas of Tijeras, NM, brother, Leroy Dutchover of Alpine, and a sister Elisa Navarette of Stanton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

Services were entrusted to Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory of Odessa.

 

 

Jones

 

Darriel Jones, 64, of Marathon, died at his residence on Monday, December 17, 2007.
A memorial service will be held at his daughter, Jerri’s house on South Lee Street in Marathon at 6pm today, Thursday, December 20.
Mr. Jones was born in Brenham, Texas on September 1, 1943 to William Henry and Nita Jones. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne. He was also a retired agriculture teacher. He had also been a Pastor for 17 years.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years,  Betty Jones of Marathon, his mother, Martha Nita Jones, four daughters, Joellen Michalec of Needville, Texas, Jerri  Jones of Marathon, Jana Jones of Ypsilanti, MI,  and Jill Craven of Bossier City, LA.  Mr. Jones is also survived by three grandchildren, Cassidy Craven, Chase Craven and Morgan Michalec.

 

 

Madrid

 

George V. Madrid Jr., of Pasadena, California, began his new adventure with the Lord on Friday, December 14, 2007. 

Services will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa at a date to be announced.

He was born September 1, 1935 in Marfa to George G. and Maria V. Madrid Sr. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Marfa and graduated from John Muir High School in Pasadena, California. He also attended Pasadena City College and enlisted in the U.S. Army.

His passions were gardening and photography. You never saw him without his camera. Before his brief illness, he enjoyed attending the Marfa Lights Festival and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren in San Angelo. 

He was a loyal employee at Fedco in Pasadena for more than 35 years. After the store closed he remained in contact with some of his co-workers. He considered them dear friends and they were blessed to spend time with him throughout the years, especially during his brief illness.

Survivors include two daughters: Petronila Madrid Garcia, husband Donny and children Dondi and Victoria; Melissa Madrid Garcia, husband Fernando and children Maricela, Rosalinda and Joseph; niece Miiko Madrid; aunts and uncles: Mary Arrieta, Tio Lalo Nunez and the late Paula Nuñez, Fidel, Julio and the late Jesse Vizcaino; cousins Gloria and Leroy Nuñez, Frank Castillo Jr. and Nick Arrieta and family. He especially enjoyed his time with Javier Arrieta and the adventures they shared. He bragged about being offered a part as a pirate which he graciously turned down.

He is preceded in death by his brother Ruben Madrid, aunt Paula Nuñez, uncle Jesse Vizcaino and parents George G. and Maria V. Madrid Sr.

 

 

Peña

 

Antonio B. Peña, 89, of Redford passed away December 16, 2007 at Midland Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Redford. He was a rancher.  A Rosary was recited on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Redford. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the church with Father Fabian Marquez officiating. Burial followed at the Redford Cemetery.

    He is survived by his wife, Elvira G. Peña of Redford, sons, Federico Peña of Odessa, Esequiel Peña of Monahans, daughters, Dora P. Marquez of Redford, Mercedes P. Flores of Granbury, Emma Elia Ramirez of Midland, Delfa Ornelas of Odessa, Guadalupe P. Marquez of Barstow;  brothers, Francisco Peña of El Paso, Julio Peña of Kermit, Oscar Peña of Colorado City;  sisters, Juana Medrano of Carlsbad, N.M., Lourdes Martinez of El Paso, Enedina Peña of Albuquerque, N.M. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Services were under the direction of Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory of Odessa.

 

 

Perryman

William ‘Bill’ Perryman, 89, of Alpine, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Alpine Valley Care Center.
A funeral service will be at 10am Friday at the University Baptist Church in Alpine. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Perryman was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was an instructor and coach at Sul Ross State University. He was born in Nocona, Texas on March 7, 1918.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Perryman, of Alpine.
